Destination Fish Off the shores of Dubai within the United Arab Emirates lies the Burj Al Arab, the self-proclaimed world’s first and only 7-star hotel. The modern-marvel sits on a man-made island 280 meters from Jumeirah Beach and is connected to the mainland via a private, slender curving bridge. The structure, which is the second tallest hotel in the world, was designed in the shape of a wind blown sail by renowned architect Tom Wright, and features unique aesthetics that include a cantilevered roof top, heli-pad for upscale guests preferring an “over the top” entrance, the world’s tallest atrium, and a panoramic sky-view restaurant. All suites are retrofitted with a mass of technological wizardry including remote-controlled lighting and curtains, and an entertainment system which includes a 42-inch plasma television, video-on-demand and digital surround-sound. For those interested in conducting business, each room comes standard with a personal laptop computer, scanner and printer. The hotel offers numerous attractions including nine restaurants and lounges, high-end retail shops, and a state-of-the-art gym and spa. Water sport activities include windsurfing, water-skiing, snorkeling, diving, kayaking, and of course, deep sea fishing adventures for billfish and other local prizes.
