Going Overboard

Destination Fish As the captain of a vessel plowing through a violent storm, your attention is centered on the immediate danger - breaking the next mammoth wave, hoping it doesn’t break you. Everything else becomes hazy as survival instincts take hold.

Just then, in a brief moment of clarity, you realize something isn’t right. You look around at the faces, counting heads as the next wave slams down hard when suddenly you ask, “Where’s Jeff?” It’s at that very moment when the world seems to stop as everyone on board realizes the same thing – man overboard! It may seem unlikely something like this would go unnoticed, but the fact is this unfortunate situation occurs more often than many would like to believe and is the reason Mobilarm’s man overboard system was created (www.mobilarm.com).

Losing someone overboard is a catastrophic event and a speedy recovery is of the utmost importance, so knowing exactly where and when the incident occurred is critical to survival. The Mobilarm MOBi-lert 7000 requires each crew member to wear a small pendant, which, if disconnected from the network through either submersion in water or distance from the vessel, will set off an alert that will enable a speedy recovery. When connected to a compatible chart-plotter or GPS, it will also provide valuable track back recovery information.

Unlike traditional marine safety solutions such as a personal EPIRB, which must be manually activated by the person in distress, MOBi-lert is fully automatic, and, while an EPIRB transmits the emergency signal to an onshore location, MOBi-lert immediately alerts crew members onboard the vessel to ensure a fast recovery, making Mobilarms overboard system an essential high seas safety technology.
