You already know the drill for going to the little
office near Baggage Claim to report a lost bag. But
you can lessen the chance of being one of the six out
of every thousand air travelers with such a problem
and getting your lost baggage back sooner by using
a baggage ID system.
First, don’t depend upon the flimsy paper tags
available at airline ticket counters. Instead spend a few
bucks on sturdy tags that won’t easily get torn away.
The vinyl, nylon or leather tags available from just
a few bucks to $30 and more often provide a wide
color and design selection, and the tag holder conceals
your contact card so it’s away from casual scrutiny.
Tags are even available with a pocket remote to activate
an ID reader with vibration or a beep. Second, attach
something else unusual to your bags so they’re easily
differentiated on the conveyor, which also makes
a theft attempt more conspicuous. A nd third, shoot
each of the bags with your digital camera and leave
them on the camera throughout the trip ... it’s a lot
more effective showing people the look and size of
your missing bag.
