It’s unlikely that any other sport-fishing destination on earth offers as many non-angling activities as sunny South Florida. Of course, there is South Beach in Miami, the undisputed nightclub capital of the world. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida is worth visiting, as is Lion Country Safari in West Palm Beach. However, no visit to South Florida would be complete without checking out the International Game Fish Association Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum in Dania Beach (www.IGFA.org). And don’t forget that Disney, the fabulous Florida Keys, and beautiful Bahamas are all easily within reach.

Destination Fish For sports fanatics, the Florida Panthers, Florida Marlins, Miami Dolphins, and Miami Heat all call South Florida home. NASCAR and INDY even pay a visit to the Homestead/Miami Speedway, and there are numerous horse racing and dog racing tracks in the vicinity.

Lens-lovers know the region offers countless photo ops both indoor and out. Museums, art galleries, and performing art centers, are all only a short drive from anywhere along the southeast coast. Wildlife, too, abounds with porpoises, manatees, and turtles a common sight when heading offshore, while numerous species of wading birds including, egrets, pelicans, ibis, cranes and colorful herons can all be spotted closer to shore.

If fishing isn’t on the family’s agenda, snorkeling, wind-surfing, boogie-boarding or simply soaking up the rays on the white sandy beaches are just a few of the many aquatic activities awaiting visitors.
